Preparing for a New School Year

Where Did Summer Go?

As you prepare for another school year to begin, here in Florida, of course school is starting August 15, 2018. All the little munchkins will be returning to their learning and their social lives, with their backpacks filled, and lunch bags in tow. Being one of the busy Moms, you might need an update on some important dates and even a refresher of whats up ahead. Summer is almost over and you need to get back to your routine, so here’s a short list of dates, events, and links to help you get on your way.

2018 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday

Yes, it’s still in affect.┬áThis sales tax holiday begins Friday, August 3, 2018, and runs through Sunday, August 5, 2018 and even if you have completed all your shopping by the time you read this article, keep in mind there are always more essentials that may have been forgotten while you were busy prepping for the new school year. This Tax Holiday allows you to pick up those final items and of course pay for them tax free.

The Talk

As your little munchkin gets older, more responsibility will be placed on their little shoulders. But the most important conversation to have prior to school starting is the emergency routine talk. Here are a few topics you might want to refresh your child on prior to that important first day:

  • what to do if a stranger approaches
  • protocols to take if they walk alone to school or take the school bus (public transportation)
  • important contacts (parents phone and addresses, family, and close trusted friends),
  • how to conduct themselves in their new grade levels, and finally,
  • what’s expected of them this new school year.

Being Brave

Of course, you also need support, so this is where bravery kicks in. Being brave is the name of the game, and if you have a young toddler heading off to VPK or Kindergarten, bravery may fail to make it’s appearance this first day of school. But remember, this is what we signed up for as mothers. Our little ones look up to us and feed off of the energy that we expel, so be brave. Be strong and confident for your little one. Of course, once you get a moment to yourself, you can cry, weep, scream, or do whatever you need to release those nervous energies; but in the face of your little one, bravery is all that should show on your face.

Good Luck

From the depth of our hearts here at MJF Solutions, Inc. we wish you the best of luck this new school year. May it be filled with all the soccer practices, tournament wins, ballet practices, and piano lessons that you’ve planned for. And most importantly, take time to breathe and enjoy each moment.
